Frequently Asked Questions

Before You Book

Why hire a professional makeup artist?

The number one reason why you should hire a professional makeup artist for your wedding is simple, so you don’t have to stress on your big day and can relax. There’s nothing worse than getting partway through your makeup and stressing out because it doesn’t quite look right.

With over a decade of industry experience in makeup, Waring Makeup has the expertise to make sure you look your best on your wedding day. This means they can help you plan months in advance the right look to match your skin type, tone, and colours for your wedding party. This expertise also means they can highlight your best features and give you extra confidence during your celebration. So take the easy, stress-free way of getting ready for your wedding and leave everything to your makeup artist.

I don’t usually wear a lot of makeup, do I have to for my wedding?

Not at all. It’s your special day, and you should feel your best for it. Makeup is about enhancing your natural features to create a look that feels like you with just a bit of polish. Leading up to your trial appointment will ask you questions to learn about your comfort level with makeup and your expectations. Our goal is to craft the perfect look to match those needs, nothing more, nothing less.

How far in advance should I book my makeup artist?

Planning a wedding is never an easy task, especially when it comes down to coordinating that every vendor will be available for the date you’ve settled on. We recommend that if you’re having your wedding during “the wedding session” (i.e. April to November), you should attempt to book your makeup artist one to two years in advance.

If your wedding date falls in “the offseason” (i.e. December to March), you should be okay to book in as little as six months. However, the earlier you confirm your booking, the less stress you’ll have about planning everything. In addition, it will give you more time to coordinate your trial appointment with a milestone event like engagement photos or your bridal party.

How important is it to book a trial?

For our brides, a trial appointment is mandatory. It lets you make sure that you are delighted with your makeup on your wedding day and don’t end up with any sudden surprises. We encourage you to use your trial appointment for a milestone event such as engagement photos or your bridal party.

The trial appointment will allow you to glimpse what you will look like on your special day, how long the makeup will last, how comfortable you feel in it, and how we can make any changes you see fit.

As for your bridal party, a trial appointment isn’t always necessary but could be beneficial if you’re looking to style the makeup towards your wedding party colours and are concerned about matching skin tones.

How far in advance should I book my trial makeup?

Your trial appointment can be booked at any time convenient for your schedule, but we always suggest that it be at least a couple of months before your wedding date so you can have time to make sure you love every detail of your makeup. This will give you time to talk with your makeup artist if you have any thoughts about changing your makeup and have them prepare for those changes.

It’s also a great idea to plan your trial appointment for significant milestones leading up to your big day, such as your engagement photos, bridal party, etc. This way, you can look just as spectacular for one of those events.

I have concerns about skin sensitivity. What should I do?

When you book Waring Makeup for your wedding, one of the first questions we have for our clients is if they have any skin sensitivities or allergies we should be aware of. It gives us the ability to work with you to figure out what will be the best products to use for your makeup session.

This will be further addressed during your trial appointment so you can provide feedback to your artist regarding any discomforts you may have with the makeup used and will switch it for your wedding date. Our ability to understand our client’s skin needs allows us to make sure you will feel and look your best.

Are you experienced with all skin tones?

Absolutely! Waring Makeup prides itself on working with a diverse range of clients and can accomplish the same high-quality work for every client no matter what skin tone they have. We have a complete kit of makeup suited to work with every skin tone and a foundation for every undertone. In addition, our portfolio page showcases a wide range of diversity without clients and should help alleviate any concerns you might have when booking your makeup artist.

I have scarring on my face, and I’m worried about texture. Are you able to cover up acne or scars?

Our goal is that your makeup artist should understand what concerns you have before your application starts so we can make you feel your best. Waring Makeup strives to make sure its clients feel comfortable sharing those concerns with us and being transparent on the best way to achieve the right look for you. Our skin preparation treatments will help the makeup apply smoothly and create a lasting look, while the products we use should help cover any scars or discolourations.

Do you offer tattoo cover-ups? If so, how long does it take?

Tattoo cover-ups are one of the many services we offer for our clients. The time it will add to your appointment can vary due to the tattoo’s size, colour, location, and potential scarring. It will also cause the price of the tattoo cover-up to vary. Before booking, inquire about any possible tattoos you would like to cover up. This service requires a description of the tattoo, its location, and a photo of it ahead of your trial appointment.

Are you able to travel to my location?

Yes! Waring Makeup artists can travel to whatever location is easiest for clients to have their makeup done. Areas could include your home, your wedding venue, or alternative venues where the bride and party are preparing for the big day. Applicable travel fees will be applied to your quote based on the distance required to travel.

Before Your Appointment

Should I come wearing my own makeup to my trial?

When a painter starts a new piece of art, they want to have a blank canvas. Therefore, we strongly recommend that our clients have a clean bare face before their makeup session. It allows your artist to apply the skin preparation properly and create the perfect flawless look for you. Removing existing makeup prior to applying new makeup means your skin will be agitated and less likely to receive the fresh makeup properly.

What do I need to do before my makeup trial?

In the weeks leading up to your appointment, it’s essential that you provide your makeup artist with images or inspirations for the type of makeup you’re looking to get done. It helps your artist understand how to give you the best look possible and explain what modifications might need to be made based on other considerations.

The night before your appointment, it’s essential to exfoliate your skin to help improve the skin preparation treatment, which will assist in making your makeup flow smoothly and evenly.

On the day of your trial, just come as you are, clean bare face, no makeup required!

What should I expect on the morning of the wedding?

Your makeup artist will arrive at the agreed location 15 minutes before your first scheduled application begins. This allows your artist to make sure they can set up their supplies and have proper lighting for your sessions. Ensure you have a clean designated area ready for your artist when they arrive and comfortable seating for you and your bridal party.

How long should I expect my makeup to take on my wedding day?

Typical bridal makeup applications will take an hour and a half, and bridal party applications will be between 30 to 45 minutes. Therefore, it’s essential to coordinate with your bridal party a schedule that everyone can agree to make sure no one’s makeup application runs late or needs to be shortened.

What makeup look would you suggest for me?

Every client has different expectations of which look will be the best for them on their wedding day. This is why we have our brides book a trial appointment ahead of their big day. This way, you can collaborate with your makeup artist to create the perfect look on your wedding day. You can rest assured that with over a decade of industry experience Waring Makeup can help guide you to feel confident about deciding on which look will be best for you.

How can you make my makeup last and look good in photos?

The secret to lasting makeup starts with proper skin care and preparation before the makeup is applied. All our makeup services come with skin preparation or our premium skin preparation package to ensure your skin is ready to support a makeup application. Next is making sure high-quality products are used that have a track record of longevity for wear so you can avoid mishaps like your mascara bleeding everywhere. Finally, using a setting spray or finishing powder will help lock in your perfect look.

If you’re nervous about looking perfect for your wedding photos, on-site touch-up services are always an option to help put your mind at ease for your big celebration.

What if I cry at my wedding? Is it going to last?

Tears are almost always unavoidable at any wedding, so hiring a professional makeup artist for your bridal makeup will help make sure you don’t have to stress out if you happen to cry. In addition, by us using high-quality waterproof mascara will help avoid any bleeding for the entirety of your service and reception; just make sure to have a few makeup wipes ready to go at the end of the day once everything is over.

Should I get eyelashes extension or use strip lashes?

Lashes are a personal preference for every bride, but there are a couple of things to consider ahead of time. First, if you’ve had lash extensions before and love how they look, go for it! However, if you’ve never had lash extensions before, we strongly recommend not getting them the day before your wedding. It could lead to an unexpected allergic reaction or not loving the look they give you (i.e. being too heavy or thick).

Strip lashes or single lashes can be a great alternative with lots of different styles to help complement the look you want to achieve for your wedding day. Waring Makeup offers a wide range of lash options, and you can discuss these options further during your trial appointment. The other great advantage of these lashes is that they can easily be removed at the night’s end and can be a lot lighter on the eyes, especially if you typically don’t wear lashes.

I have some favourite makeup products. Can we use mine?

We can always work with our clients to incorporate their favourite products into their final look, whether you have a particular lipstick shade or eye shadow colour in mind. Just let us know ahead of time, preferably before your trial appointment, and we will create the perfect look for you.

What brands of makeup products do you use?

While I have a wide range of products in my makeup kit, a few of my favourite brands include MAC Cosmetics, Too Faced, Makeup Forever, Morphe, and Duwop Cosmetics.
